Celebrating great songs through art

Here at Indieprints we make high quality vintage style art prints. The designs were often inspired by great songs that emerged from the indie music scene, but also by older classics dating back to the ’60s and ’70s. Other sources of inspiration come from literature, film and television. Football and favourite places (London and North Wales) also feature strongly here. Our designs combine retro styles and typography with much-loved lyrics, poetry and terrace chants to produce striking wall art.

Atmosphere, Joy Division

Joy Division were a pillar of the Manchester post punk scene, a band whose influence can be felt down through years. This beautiful, elegiac song stands out as one of their greatest moments. The gentle, haunting music, lifted in places by shimmering, ethereal flourishes, provides a bed for Ian Curtis’ existential hymn to the human condition. Every line hangs heavy with poignant meaning: “people like you find it easy”…“endless talking, life rebuilding”…“don’t walk away, in silence”. It was first released by French label, Sordide Sentimental, in March 1980 as a limited edition single, then following Ian’s death, as a 12 inch single on Factory Records later the same year.

Indie music art prints

A large part of the Indieprints collection was inspired by the Indie and Alternative scene. That means, bands and artists such as The Clash, The Jam, The Cure, The Fall, Psychedelic Furs, Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths, The Pogues, The Waterboys, Jeff Buckley, Belle and Sebastian, Billy Bragg, Depeche Mode, James, Radiohead, The Libertines, Spiritualized, REM, Pixies, Pavement, Mazzy Star, Bikini Kill, Ween, Crowded House, They Might Be Giants…the list goes on!

In addition, many of the song-based designs were inspired by older classics produced by iconic artists. And when we say ‘iconic’ we mean of course, the likes of David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Velvet Underground, Van Morrison, Glen Campbell, The Kinks, Kraftwerk, Nick Drake, Kate Bush, Elton John and Queen.

High quality hand printed wall art

All designs are hand printed to order on high quality paper. We use 189 g/m² Archival Matte for the A4, A3 sizes, and 250 g/m² Japanese Washi Fine Art Paper for the A2 and A1 sizes. Extra care is taken in packaging the prints so that they arrive in perfect condition. We use robust cardboard tubes and extra strong cardboard wraps to ensure safe delivery. All prints come with a white border to allow easy framing, and framed versions are available for sizes A3 and A4. We use black wood effect MDF frames (20mm wide) with a clear Plexi (non glass) front and hardboard backing with both portrait and landscape hanging loops fitted.
